Many tourists and visitors from all over the world come to Le Marche to experience the wonderful walks and scenery in the breathtaking Sibillini Mountains which are part of the Apennine Mountain chain and are located in the east of the region.
Many of the mountains are in excess of 2,000 metres in height and the highest, Monte Vettore is 2,476 metres high. Since 1993 this area of Le Marche has been designated as part of the Parco Nazionale dei Monte Sibillini and has special protection status in Italian law.

The mountains are named after the famous prophetess The Sibyl. Legend has it that she lived in a cave in the mountains and knights and wizards visited from all over Europe in the hope of hearing one of her prophesies and it was also said that Pontius Pilate was buried on Monte Vettore.

There are numerous walks that visitors can take and also guides are available to show the best sights and views in this wonderful area of Le Marche. The Parks Information centres are well staffed and can advise you on where to spot local flora, fauna and wildlife including deer, boar, wildcats, wolves, peregrine falcons and golden eagles.
For visitors the towns of Amandola, Comunanza, Sarnano, Gualdo and Montefortino are all within easy reach and offer a range of accommodation to suit all tastes. Amandola and Sarnano are particularly popular with visitors wishing to visit the area and many foreign buyers have bought property in and around both these towns over the past ten years.

The Sibillini Mountains can also be reached from the Adriatic coast in an under an hour and Umbria which lies to the west of the mountains is also a very popular region of Italy and has the world famous city of Perugia which I feel is one of the most beautiful cities in the whole of Italy.
