We at Marchetownhouses and Livinginlemarche are pleased that our latest website, Vinitours.co.uk is now on line. The site will be offering a selected number of wine, olive oil and honey appreciation and tasting tours in Le Marche and Umbria starting in the spring of 2011. Our partner in Umbria has been busy finding some excellent producers of fine olive oils and excellent wines and we are now also offering classes and tastings in central Umbria in the spring, summer and autumn of 2011.

Several Italian organic producers from Abruzzo, Calabria and Puglia have also contacted us and asked about possible collaboration with Vinitours in 2011 and in the future. We feel that this will bring our clients an even greater range of choice and hope to have a few tours to these regions of Italy by the Autumn of 2011.

Our new website Sagraitalia.com is now finished and has gone online at www.sagraitalia.com The website brings all the latest news, details of venues and times for our Italian cookery and food events that are being held in London, southern and eastern England over the Autumn and winter period of 2010 and into 2011. We are starting to put together some events in great venues such as the Forum in Norwich, a cool studio off Mare Street in Hackney in east London and a new prestigious new farm shop and market in Norfolk near Norwich.

Sagraitalia is part of the Livinginlemarche group and is closely associated with the well known Livinginitaly group based in Todi in Umbria and run by June Clayton who has lived in Italy for many years and has extensive knowledge about the Italian property market.

At Marchetownhouses, Livinginlemarche and Olivaverde we always do our best to keep our readers and clients up to date with all the latest news, but please do come back and check on Sagraitalia our exciting new website. To obtain a Mortgage in Italy has always been difficult for foreign buyers, but recently it has become almost impossible to obtain finance from Italian Banks. Even British Banks with branches in Italy these often based in Milan and Rome are very reluctant to lend to property buyers in all parts of Italy.

Olivaverde

Olivaverde is a new concept for Marchetownhouses and our team of associates located in Le Marche . Along with our sister website Livinginlemarche.com we have designed a dedicated website to promote and market Extra Virgin olive oil, pasta and other produce all produced by small artisan farmers. It will also feature the producers, details of their farms, olive groves, vineyards and methods of production. The new website went online early in 2010 and we hope that as well as promoting olive oil and pasta, it will also help promote le Marche and its produce to a much wider audience outside of Italy

We are passionate about the extra virgin olive oils produced in the Le Marche region and will also be focusing on oils made from just one olive variety. These monovarietal olive oils are quite rare even in Italy but we already have 4 or 5 of these wonderful olive oils available to import and sell in the UK. Unfortunately at the moment we are mainly confined to London and the home counties so far, but we hope to increase our availability to more of the UK and also the US in 2010.

Green Energy Solutions

Green energy, eco friendly buildings and environmentally sensitive building materials are increasingly becoming much more mainstream in the UK and the US, but are still relatively unknown in Italy. There are a small amount of Italian companies providing green solutions in the building industry in Italy but they are still relatively few and far between and British clients wanting green solutions for their new building project or renovation often turn to established companies in the UK to travel to Italy to carry out any works that are required.Often in these more eco aware days large farmhouse or country house owners now considering other heating sources other than gas as in Italy electricity is rarely used for heating purposes, and gas, both town gas and LPG are the common fuel used for heating in most homes. But the cost of gas for supplying heating and hot water has been rising rapidly over the past 18 months and shows no signs of decreasing over the medium to long term.Today other alternative ways of supplying heat in buildings are increasingly being utilised, and these include ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps, wood burning stoves with back boilers supplying radiators and of course solar panels to supply both hot water and electricity.

Marchetownhouses was originally retained by a client wanting a different solution for her heating requirements and it has become increasingly involved in supplying alternative energy solutions to clients in the southern and central Le Marche areas. We are constantly on the look out for different types of efficient alternative energy sources to offer our clients who are interested in sustainable and low carbon solutions for their heating and hot water.Of course the use of solar power for heating water and providing small amounts of electricity Italy has the advantage over the UK in that Italy has many more hours of sunshine throughout the year and the sunlight is so much stronger than in the UK where solar panels are mainly used to heat water for domestic use.

We at Marchetownhouses find that a combination of either ground source or air source heat pumps coupled with under floor heating systems are now becoming much more popular in new builds and also in major restorations of all types of village and country properties, and of course owners of village properties can also take advantage of most alternative forms of energy except for ground source heat pumps which do require an large area of land which is normally not available in most villages. A complete system for a large house might typically now be a combination of either a pellet stove or wood burning stove with a back boiler to provide heating through radiators. Pellet stoves have long been used as a very efficient form of heating in Italy and are still not very common in the UK.
Together with an air source heat pump linked to under floor heating for kitchen, bathroom and living areas and solar panels to provide hot water many owners find that there is no need to use any other form of heating, but some still use bottled gas for cooking.

This type of energy production is often termed Micro generation and we at Marchetownhouses are happy to advise any one considering Micro generation in their Italian property, whether in an existing home or in a new restoration project. We can offer different solutions for your energy needs and install all of the various systems on offer in the market at the moment.Another benefit of Micro generation is that in Italy any excess electricity of which is generated but not used by the consumer can be also sold back to the electricity company to be fed back into the grid, much the same as happens in the UK. Grants are now becoming available toward the cost of solar panels for domestic hot water and electricity production and I see all the various types of installations becoming much more common in the future.

Micro generation is in our view the way forward for our clients energy needs, both as a green solution to the problem of the production of excess CO2 in the atmosphere, and also because the economics of heating houses using imported mainly gas. The price of gas is set to continue to increase in year on year, and it makes sense to become more self sufficient for all our energy needs. At Marchetownhouses we have connections with various green energy equipment suppliers and specialists in the southern Le Marche region, but who are also willing to supply projects, both large and small throughout the whole Le Marche region. Summer Jamboree in Senigallia

Senigallia plays host to many festivals, concerts and sagra each year but my favourite of all the Summer Jamboree is almost upon us again. I have attended four of these colourful, lively events which is a celebration of 1950’s American music, culture and fashion.

This year is the Summer Jamborees 10th anniversary and as in previous years the main event is being held in the Piazza del Duca near the Roca in central Senigallia. It is always held in the second half of August and this year it is from the 14th to 23rd August. The Jamboree is completely free and as always it spills out throughout the town, with many parties and events held in the many small Piazza and open areas throughout the town.

The event has been growing in size and scope each year and has become increasingly popular over the 10 years that it has been held in Senigallia, and this years promises to be bigger and better than ever before.There are to be more than 30 concerts which will showcase over 100 bands and guest performers and will be held throughout the town over a week long period. Most of the artists planned to be playing at the Jamboree are from the USA and Italy, but there are also acts from the UK, France, Holland, Germany, Spain and Switzerland.

Senigallia Piazza

In the evenings it will be possible to let your hair down and join in with the dancing at the many parties and concerts. Amongst many of the dances included are the Jive, Twist and Boogie woogie.Anyone interested can also attend dance workshops in the town centre, get an authentic 1950’s haircut or hairstyle at one of the many specialist salons and also visit the vintage market stalls throughout the town that sell all types of 50’s memorabilia and clothes

Senigallias residents as well as the many visitors really get into the swing of things and many dress up as Teddy boys and the girls wear typical 1950’s skirts along with scarves, stockings and 1950’s shoes. The hair do’s are also typical of that period and close up it is great to see the colourful clothes of that era worn throughout the town over the weeklong event.

There are dozens of period American cars and motorbikes positioned in the Piazza del Duca during the whole weeks events. Also in the evenings there are many period American cars driving slowly throughout the main parts of the town and also parading down the Lungomare on the sea front and these are a delight to see and hear!
The one thing that the organisers have not got quite right is the fast food offered to the public in the main Piazza in the evenings. Italians as a whole don’t do the fast food thing at all well and the organisers would be better to use Mc Donald’s to supply the fast food stalls than to try to cater for public themselves. But that is really only a minor irritation and to counterbalance this there is of course the Italian ice cream or Gelati which are the best in the world and available all over the town all evening and into the early hours of the morning.

Amphitheatre

The resort of Senigallia is a very popular holiday town on the Adriatic coast in central Le Marche.I personally think that Senigallia is by far the nicest coastal resort in the whole of Le Marche, though Porto san Giorgio comes a very close second. Senigallia is a vibrant town with a young feel about it, and it is always full of colour, music and sound all year round.Throughout the year there are many fairs, festivals, concerts and parties to entertain both residents and visitors alike. In the main shopping area there are numerous bars and restaurants and in the summer you can sit outside and be served in style with drinks and a wide variety of snacks and meals. A visit to the many galleries and museums dotted around the town are always worthwhile and dining out at the many wonderful restaurants in the town is a delight. In fact some of my favourite restaurants in the whole of Le Marche are to be found in Senigallia, including the wonderful Da Uliassi restaurant on the Lungomare,complete with wonderful sea views.
Please try not to miss coming to the Jamboree if you happen to be in Le Marche this August or make a date for next August in your diary if you wont be able to make it this year, I guarantee it will be an experience you will remember for many years to come!

Malta Townhouses

Marchetownhouses was approached by a well known Maltese agent late last year with a view to possibly advertising a chosen number of Maltese village houses on the Marchetownhouses website. Malta and Gozo are popular holiday destinations for many European visitors and we believe that we are widening the choices available to our clients by offering selected properties for sale on the Islands. Happily we are finally in the position to start offering a select number of Maltese village houses for sale on database until our new Maltatownhouses website becomes active early 2010. We will also be offering selected properties in nearby Sicily through Sicilian agents who are now working with us and our Italian associates.

Naxxar Street

We are very excited about this new opporunity to offer our clients beautiful townhouses located in the historic villages and towns in the islands of Malta and Gozo. Properties for sale in villages such as Rabat, Naxxar, Mosta and many others will be made available from early 2010.
